Why reviews matter
Generate and manage reviews
Reviews are important for every business. It gives you insight into the areas that you are performing well and the areas that need improvement. But most of all, a majority of your guests will look at reviews before making a booking. This means your review score will have a big influence on your performance. Let’s dive into this subject!
Why reviews?
Tripadvisor asked travelers why reviews matter. The most important take-aways are:
96% of bookers consider reviews important when researching a hotel.
79% will read between 6 and 12 reviews before making a purchase decision.
88% will filter out hotels with an average star rating below three.
85% agree that a thoughtful response to a review would improve their impression of the hotel.

How to get more reviews?
And finally the most important chapter: how do you get reviews from your guests? Here are 10 tips from Hotelchamp.
The most important take-aways:
- Ask your guests on the spot (see section below) or if you can't, send an email where you ask for a review.
- Make writing a review as easy as possible.
- Reply to the reviews (particularly the bad ones!).
As mentioned before there are two important reasons to generate reviews. A final tip when you want to increase your business: send some of your more loyal guests a survey with more specific questions. These will not be shown online, but are a great way to increase your services. A very helpful and simple tool is: Google forms.
Ask for reviews on the spot
Allow your guests to write a review while they wait for the taxi, or when they are on the ride back from a tour.
Create a QR code
You have seen them around, and now you can make them work for you: the QR code. There are several free online QR code generators. They can direct your guest to the review page immediately. Have the QR ready (in print, on your phone, on a sticker or on a display). Jacyjoka apartments show the QR code e.g. on an information sheet in the room.
Give your guest options
Through linktr.ee or bio.site you can create a page with multiple links where people can pick their favourite platform to leave their review. Just make sure you have the correct URL's for each of them: check them on different computers or phones to see if they work correctly. E.g. when you are logged into the platforms, the link may work for you, but not for someone not logged in or with a different account. For reviews on Google you find the correct link on the home of your Google Business profile. Check, check and double check before you publish them!
Where people check reviews
Google is the most important location for guests to search for online reviews, followed by Tripadvisor and booking.com. This is also related to search engine optimisation. The better the reviews, the higher the ranking in Google is. Make sure to claim your Google Business listing to be able to respond.
